Publish or Perish: Silverton Saves Its Newspaper
Colorado Western Slope’s oldest newspaper, The Silverton Standard & The Miner, nearly closed when its out-of-town owner put it up for sale. The editor asked the local historical society to step in. Now the weekly paper is run as a non-profit with editorial independence, linking the 531 residents of the remote mountain town.
